England striker Andrew Johnson has signed a new long-term deal that will keep him at Everton until 2012.

The 26-year-old, who had been linked with a move to West Ham in January, has agreed a five-year deal.

“We are absolutely delighted, it is fantastic news for Evertonians,” Everton chairman Bill Kenwright told the club’s website.

“This deal further underlines our commitment to keep our best players at our club.

“We continue to build for the future and Andrew Johnson is very much part of that future.”

Johnson has scored 13 goals for the club since joining them for £8.6m from Crystal Palace in 2006, but had only only managed one goal this season before he underwent an operation on his ankle last month. He is expected to return to action within the next few weeks.
