Lyon midfielder Juninho has admitted he could leave the club if he cannot agree a long-term contract.

Juninho is looking for a two-year extension to his current deal to take him through until 2010, but the club is only willing to extend the deal by one year at present.

“Contrary to what some people have said, I haven’t signed a contract extension until 2009,” he told But. “I am not interested in a one-year extension. I want to play until 2010.

“I am 32 years old and I know the realities of football. I have a history with this club and I would like to end my career with them – I have been saying that for years.

“I expect the club to recognise what I have done for this team. I stopped playing for Brazil so that I would always be fresh for Lyon, but it doesn’t depend on me alone.

“If I don’t manage to extend my contract until 2010, I will leave the club as soon as possible.”
