Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is confident his side can beat Milan at the San Siro and go on to reach the second group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Just one point from their opening three Champions League matches has left Bayern, one of the pre-tournament favourites, on the brink of elimination from the competition. However, Kahn remains confident that Bayern can upset the odds and overcome Milan tonight.

“We are going to Milan to win,” he said.

“We have the capability and we have dropped enough points already. We have eight games in four weeks now and we need to get off to a good start.”

Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld was equally positive and callled on his players to produce a performance to justify their billing as one of Europe’s strongest teams

“We are playing well in the Bundesliga but you can’t compare that to the Champions League and especially playing away against Milan,’ said Hitzfeld

“We have to raiseourselves further if we want to win the game and prove that we are among the best teams in Europe. And I think we are capable of that. I am also pleased that this game is finally taking place so thatwe can show everyone that we are better than they seem to think.”
