Erwin Koeman has resigned as coach of Feyenoord.

Koeman had been in charge of the club since the summer of 2005, but opted to step down after a disappointing campaign which has seen the Rotterdam-based club finish 7th in teh Eredivisie.

“I leave the club on this sad result but I’m proud of having trained the club for two years. I put all my soul into it,” said the departing boss, who is the older brother of PSV coach Ronald Koeman.

Henk Duut and John Metgod have been placed in caretaker control of team affairs until a permanent successor to Koeman has been found.
