Liverpool have suffered a setback wth the news that goalkeeper Chris Kirkland will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury.

“Chris Kirkland has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a tear to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” Liverpool said on their official website.

Kirkland collided with Crystal Palace striker Dele Adebola during yesterday’s FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace. He was forced to leave the pitch and was replaced by former number one at Anfield, Jerzy Dudek.

Liverpool said it was too early to assess the extent of the damage but confirmed he would not play again this season. It is a blow for Kirkland, the 21-year-old keeper had been tipped in some quarters to replace David Seaman as England number one.
