Belgian first division club Lommel have appointed Jos Heyligen as their new coach, following the sacking of Harm Van Veldhoven.

Heyligen retutns to the club he coached in the 1993-94 season when the club were in the second division and subsequentlywent on to manage Westerlo and Verbroedering Geel.

Lommel are currently lying in 13th place with just eight points from the first nine games.

“Now I want Lommelse to get better,” Heyligen said on confirmation of his appointment. “I know the club well and some of the players were already here in my last period in charge. I hope I can bring the club the results they are expecting.”

“But I am not going to critisise Harm,’ he added.

‘I am a humble coach and I have learned that if I am going to progress I have to criticise myself, too. I know that I will always be a defender of nice, well-constructed football but now I know sometimes it is not enough.”
