Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat at lowly Getafe left the club lying 11 points behind Barcelona in the race for La Liga and prompted coach Wanderley Luxemburgo to concede that the title may now be beyond their reach.

Luxemburgo decided to take the blame for the loss.

“The main person at fault is me,” said the former Brazil boss.

“We have to carry on working because we have to maintain our place in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

“But winning the league now is going to be very difficult. I don’t have any explanations for what happened out there. Getafe fought, played and my team just stood by and watched them do it. They were deserved winners.

“If we are not going to win the league then we are going to lose with dignity. We are going to fight until the end of the season and then we will face the critics when it is all over,” added Luxemburgo.

However, Luxemburgo acknowledged that this was a poor Real performance.

“I didn’t see any real spirit from my players and that thay have to change,” said Luxemburgo.

Meanwhile, midfielder Guti has ruled out the club’s chances of catching Barcelona.

“The league is now practically impossible,” admitted Guti.

“It isn’t because we are 11 points behind but because we don’t seem capable of being able to raise our game.

“A team that doesn’t win away from home and struggles to score is going to find it difficult to achieve its objectives.

“We’ve got some very tough months ahead of us and we just have to try and finish as high up in the league as we can because there is a lot at stake for this club.”
