France defender Francois Clerc will be out for five or six months after suffering a knee injury.

Clerc ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the first half of Lyon’s 3-0 win over Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

“Francois Clerc had a MRI scan this morning which revealed the seriousness of his injury… He will be out between five and six months,” theFrench champions said on their website.

Clerc, 25, has earned 13 caps for France since making his international debut in late 2006 after only a few Ligue 1 games with Lyon.

Clerc was tipped to be named in the French squad to be announced on Tuesday for an international friendly in Sweden on August 20.
