Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel insists his feet remain firmly on the ground despite leading the club to a record-equalling winning streak.

The Bundesliga leaders have notched up seven straight victories to become just the third side to achieve the feat.

But Tuchel reckons Mainz’s staff, players and fans are refusing to get carried away.

He said: “Our goal is to establish ourselves in the Bundesliga and we are, I believe, on the right track.

“I am pleased that our supporters are not thinking about the Champions League or the Bundesliga title.”

Mainz equalled the record, also held by Kaiserslautern in 2001 and Bayern Munich in 1995, with a superb 4-2 home win against Hoffenheim.

“These seven victories have not happened by chance but by hard work,” said Tuchel.

“The players deserve what they have achieved but, although we are not afraid of crashing back to earth, that is not in our thinking.”
