Striker Roy Makaay has signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich, keeping him at the German club until 2008.

The Dutch international, who has scored 61 goals in 93 Bundesliga games for Bayern, joined Germany’s the club from Deportivo La Coruna at the start of the 2003-04 season and won a domestic double in Munich last year.

Although he scored twice in Sunday’s 2-2 league draw at FSV Mainz to take his season’s tally to 16, this has been a disappointing campaign for Makaay. He was omitted from Holland’s provisional 28-man squad for the World Cup finals, and unless coach Marco Van Basten performs an unlikely a u-turn, Makaay looks set to miss out on Germany.
