Holland international Roy Makaay claims he has repeatedly turned down the opportunity of a move to the Premiership.

Speaking ahead of Holland’s friendly international with England, the Bayern Munich striker has admitted that the prospect of playing in England has never appealed.

“I’ve had a lot of chances to go and play in England but I’ve always turned them down,” commented Makaay.

“There are only three clubs that can win the title in England so for me it is not as competitive as Spain, Italy or Germany

“It would be fantastic to score a goal against England because everyone would take notice,” he added.

“England’s strike-force is no better than the Dutch and personally I would not swap any England player for any of the forwards in Holland.

However, Makaay singled out Wayne Rooney as a potential threat.

“Rooney is impressive but he’s also very young and for me doesn’t have sufficient experience at international level.

“He’s nowhere near as good as Robben, for example, and despite how he played in Euro 2004 I don’t think he’s the main star of the England team.”
