Joe Kinnear will be looking for his first win as temporary boss of Newcastle when they face West Brom in the Premier League tonight.

Paolo Maldini believes there are only positive reasons behind David Beckham’s desire to join Milan.

The Serie A club are in talks to sign Beckham on a short-term loan deal from Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Commercial, rather than footballing, factors have cited as the principal reasons behind the move.

But Milan captain Maldini is confident that the arrival of the experienced midfielder at the San Siro can bring benefits on thepicth.

“Beckham is coming here to train, to remain in good form and to still be an important part of his national team,” said Maldini.

“I feel they are all positive motivations.

“Milan has no reservations signing veteran players and has always taken into account the image and communication factors.

“As long as you have image and technical values together, all is well.”

However, Maldini has warned that name alone does not guarantee success.

“The important thing (to remember) is that a team of ‘galacticos’ does not prevail,” added Maldini.

“If we were to fail again this year it would be a disaster.”
