Capello is expected to include five City players – Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Gareth Barry, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Adam Johnson – in his squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro, with James Milner only missing because he is serving a suspension.

“It’s important that so many of the players are at City because they train every day together, they play together regularly in the matches,” Capello said. “The national teams that won the titles, the World Cup the Euros, they had something like this.

“Spain, for example, had players from three teams, seven from Barcelona, three from Real Madrid and one from Villareal. When Italy won the World Cup in 2006, they had a lot of players from Juventus.”

Despite concerns about his fitness following a recent ankle injury, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney appears to be in line for selection, with Darren Bent – enjoying a good season with Sunderland – expected to be given a chance to start.

“Bent is back, he scored his first goal [in the qualifier against Switzerland],” Capello told FATV. “You know that Bent in front of goal is really, really dangerous. He played 20 minutes against Switzerland and he scored an important goal.

“He is probably one of the important players for the future. Defoe, in the new style, is really important. Unfortunately this time he is injured so I have to find another forward like him.”
