Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon has confirmed his club have made an enquiry for Leeds United defender Rio Ferdinand.
Kenyon confirmed his enquiry was rebuffedby the Elland Road club who claim Ferdinand is not for sale. However, even Leeds manager David O’Leary has admitted that the club would sell the former West Ham player if someone offered £30million for the highly-regarded defender.
Ferdinand’s transfer value has soared on the back of some impressive World Cup performances and Manchester United may face competition for his signature from several leading Spanish or Italian clubs.
“We’ve said things will be done after the World Cup,” confirmed Kenyon. “Over the next few weeks, things will start to develop but there is nothing at the minute.
“I have spoken to Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale.
“At that stage, he was not for sale andthere has been no other contact since then,” he told The Manchester Evening News.
“Tentative enquiries have been made about players because we are obviously looking at our squad for next season.”
