Internazionale coach Roberto Mancini has been handed a vote of confidence by president Giacinto Facchetti.

Facchetti was speaking after Inter suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Roma – their fourth loss in only 9 Serie A games this season.

Amid reports that Mancini’s days were numbered, Facchetti issued a show of support for his beleaguered coach.

“These rumours are without any foundation whatsoever,” he said. “Mancini continues to receive the full backing of the club.”

Meanwhile, Inter are to appeal against the decision to suspend Mancini following comments he made in the wake of the defeat to Roma.

The Inter boss claims that he did nothing wrong, telling the club’s official website: “I told him to look at the penalty he had awarded and that he should be ashamed.

“I only said this and I don’t think I deserve a two-match ban for this sentence. The talk of threats and of me being held back? It’s clear that whoever was there wanted to take me away so I wouldn’t speak.”
