Roberto Mancini has revealed his interest in Javier Pastore but denied a claim that he had contacted Palermo about the midfielder.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini claimed that Manchester City made an enquiry on deadline day for the Argentine, who is valued at a €100million by the Sicilian club.

Mancini maintains that any approach did not come from him, although he does admit to being an admirer of Pastore.

Mancini told Premium Calcio: “Palermo’s president Zamparini said he received a call from City for Pastore, but he doesn’t speak English?

“This means that I wasn’t on the phone, otherwise I would have spoken in Italian.

“City are interested in good players, and Pastore is good, just like [Edinson] Cavani, and many others.”

Mancini also spoke about the future of City striker Mario Balotelli, who continues to be linked with a move back to Italy despite only arriving at Eastlands from Inter in August.

“I am not worried about his will to return to Italy. For now he must think about doing well here,” said Mancini.
