Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has confirmed he tried to sign Serbia winger Milos Krasic, but the then CSKA player had made clear that his preference was to join Juventus.

The move eventually went through after Juve failed to make Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko their non-EU signing.

“They have a leader in Krasic. I know his qualities, I am not stupid. He is a great player,” he said. “He’s a player I have always followed. I tried to sign him when I was Inter coach and I tried again when I arrived at City.”

Krasic, though, has no doubt that he made the right move in joining Juventus, who have won two of their last three games after a disappointing start.

“You cannot even imagine how happy I am,” he said in Sport Express. “Moreover, the team has won at last. We have to keep on winning in order to retain the high status of Juventus.”

“The team welcomed me very warmly and everything suits me here – I only have to improve my play. It is impossible to become a leader in such a high-class team in a month, and I feel that I need several more matches to fully adapt to the team and show my best football.”

Juve drew with Lech Poznan in their opening Europa League outing but Krasic is hopeful they can secure a victory at Eastlands.

“We will go there to fight,” he said. “I am sure that our failures in the Europa League and at the start of the national league are temporary.

“We play well but in some cases we lack understanding – there are many new players in the team especially in the defensive line and they have to get used to each other.”
