Diego Maradona has criticised his former club Boca Juniors for choosing Banfield’s Julio Cesar Falcioni over him.
Falcioni won the 2009 Apertura title with Banfield and will move to Boca to replace Claudio Borghi. However, Maradona has mocked his appointment, claiming he was just ”a goalkeeper”.
“I wish him the best, but for me, he shouldn’t be there,” Maradona told Clarin. “Ameal [club president Jorge Amor Ameal] cannot tell a football from a rugby ball and he chose Falcioni… a goalkeeper.”
Maradona also said he felt betrayed by the club’s decision, but assured fans that he would be taking control at La Bombonera in the future.
“I will tell the Boca fans now that someday I will be sitting on that bench,” Maradona added. “I thought that they were going to call me. They called [Carlos] Bianchi and then they sacked him. Then they called him again to see who he wanted to be there. It is a massive betrayal.”
