Marseille have receieved a fitness boost over French midfielder Mathieu Valbuena after they revealed he has not been seriously injured.

Valbuena limped out of training on Wednesday, having only just returned from a knee injury that had kept him on the sidelines for more than a month.

However, the midfielder should be back in training within the next few days and the French club remain hopeful that he will be available for the Champions League last-16 second leg against Manchester United on March 15.

“The medical staff were quickly reassured by the initial medical exam and then by the MRI scan carried out in the afternoon,” read a statement on the club’s official website. ”(Valbuena) will probably return to training with the squad within 48 hours.”

Valbuena returned from his most recent injury in the first leg against United at the Stade Velodrome last week, coming on as a late substitute in the goalless draw.
