Lionel Messi has admitted that he would speak to Real Madrid presidential candidate, Florentino Perez, but only to tell him he is more than happy at Barcelona.

Perez is standing for the Real Madrid presidency this summer and he has already promised fans a ‘spectacular project’ should he be voted in.

The 62-year-old – who was Real president from 2000 to 2006 – has recently declared that there is nothing stopping him from bidding for Barca’s top talent, as he proved when he controversially signed Luis Figo from the Catalans in 2000.

But Messi is adamant that history will not be repeating itself this time around.

“Yes, I would take his call,” he told AS. “I am not waiting for him to ring.

“I do not think he would call me anyway because he is after other players.

“I want to stay with Barca. My plan is to stay here. I came to Barcelona as a child and they have given everything to me. I am one of the people here.

“So, no, I do not believe Florentino will call because he knows this about me.”
