Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti is optimistic that captain Paolo Maldini will recover in time to face Manchester United.

Trailing 3-2 from the first leg, Milan have been sweating on the fitness of their experienced defender, who has been struggling since aggravating a knee problem at Old Trafford.

“I’d like for him to recover because his experience is essential,” Ancelotti told the Italian press.

“In matches like this one, personality and experience count for more than fitness condition.”

Maldini himself is also keen to be involved as he knows the significance of the fixture.

“My team are giving me positive answers and for that reason I am calm,” he added.

“We will play well because we have worked for the whole season for this match. We want to reach the final.”
