Milan striker Marco Borriello has been banned for three months for failing a drugs test.
The 24-year-old, who tested positive for corticosteriods prednisone and prednisolone after the 2-1 defeat to Roma in November, will be able to return on March 21 due to the fact he has been serving a suspension since news of his positive drugs test emerged on December 21.
Borriello has scored three goals in 12 appearances for Milan this season.
The news is the latest in a long line of setbacks suffered by Milan in recent months. The club is struggling to recover from an eight-point penalty handed down in last year’s match-fixing scandal, and lie fifth in Serie A on 36 points from 24 matches, 30 points behind leaders Internazionale.
