Milan have completed the signing of Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal on a four-year contract.

The departure will come as a blow to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who had offered the 24-year-old a new deal only to see the French international opt for a four-year contract with Milan.

Flamini had been a key player this season, making 39 starts in midfield and scoring three times.

Milan director Adriano Braidac revealed that Flamini had required little persuasion to join Milan.

“I have to say Flamini was a player that [coach Carlo] Ancelotti really wanted and Milan is like a family, where decisions are made jointly," said club director Adriano Braida.

"Flamini is not an unknown player. Although no negotiations are easy, it wasn't difficult to convince Flamini to join Milan.

"Flamini has made a choice as his contract with Arsenal is coming to an end and we are delighted he has chosen Milan. He is a very good player and he can offer a lot to the team."

It is believed that Flamini will earn €4-million (around R46-million) a season.
