Inter captain Javier Zanetti would welcome a move for Tottenham’s influential playmaker Luka Modric.

The Italian and European champions in the market for a midfielder to replace the ageing Dejan Stankovic at the end of the season, and have been linked with Modric.

The Croatian has impressed during Tottenham’s Champions League campaign, which saw a 10-man Spurs side lose 4-3 at the San Siro before they beat Inter 3-1 at White Hart Lane.

Modric has another three years to run on his contract so the Nerazzurri would have to spend big to land the 25-year-old.

But Zanetti believes he would become a success in Serie A.

“We faced Modric twice in this season’s Champions League and I think he’s a great player,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Technically, he brings an interesting dimension. He’s also still young.

“And I say this even though I prefer to talk about the players who are already here because we are still in the running for all competitions.”
