Borussia Moenchengladbach has appointed Lucien Favre as its new coach a day after firing Michael Frontzeck.

“The 53-year-old will run his first training session on Tuesday,” the club said in a statement, giving no details on the length of his contract.

Frontzeck was sacked Sunday after the team’s latest defeat – a 3-1 loss at St. Pauli on Saturday – left it seven points adrift of safety at the bottom of the German league.

Favre has previously be in charge at Hertha Berlin, whom he took to fourth place in the Bundesliga in 2009. He was fired in September 2009 after six straight defeats in the new season.
