Monaco expect to find out today whether if their bid to sign Manchester City’s Nicolas Anelka has been successful.

The Champions League finalists are looking to sign Anelka and Barcelona’s Argentina forward Javier Saviola.

“We are waiting for Anelka and Saviola’s decisions,” a spokesman for the French club revealed.

“We have been conducting parallel negotiations with both players for a while and we should know more soon.”

Saviola has been told he can leave on a season’s loan but Monaco are not keen on the arrangement unless Barcelona agree to pay some of his wages.

“We cannot pay his full wage because as everyone knows Monaco has serious economic problems,” sporting director Henri Bianchieri said on Tuesday.

“Last season Fernando Morientes was loaned to us practically free because Real Madrid paid his salary.”
