Alessandro Nesta has dismissed speculation claiming he is interested in returning to Lazio, whilst revealing that talks with Milan are on hold until he overcomes his injury problems.

The defender’s current deal with the Rossoneri expires in 2008 and, with no progress made on a new deal there has been talk of a return to Rome.

“My deal expires in 2008 and it doesn’t seem right, due to my injury, to renew it now,” Nesta told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Going back to Rome wouldn’t make sense.

“Lazio was a good period in my life, [but] I’m still young, I want to play at a high level – the Champions League.

“Abroad? I must say no. If I renew my contract with Milan for four years then I will quit.”

Nesta has spent the last two months in Miami having special treatment on his shoulder, but he expects to return to action within the next few weeks.

“It will be another few weeks before I play, I have not touched the ball yet,” Nesta admitted.
