The new Naples football club, formed to take the place of the bankrupt team of the Italian city, has been given a place in the country’s third division.
Italian Football League president Adriano Galliani announced that the new club, Napoli Soccer, had been granted a spot in Serie C1.
Napoli were recently declared bankrupt but the franchise for the city was bought by a new club formed by cinema producer Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Italian soccer regulations allow a city to retain the rights to professional football even if the local club has been declared bankrupt.
Although formally the club has a new name they are expected to be known as Napoli and play in the original light blue shirts of the old club.
