Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness is confident the club will buy Inter’s midfielder Emre.

The Turkish international stated over the weekend he had signed for The Magpies, but the deal to bring the 24-year-old to St James’ has yet to be finalised.

“We still hope to do a deal with Emre — we want him and the boy wants to join us,” said Souness.

“He’s one player on my list. He can play wide left, through the middle or off the front. He’s a good player who can play a number of positions.”

Emre’s agent Ahmet Bulut has confirmed that Newcastle are leading the race to sign his client, but there are other clubs still in the frame.

“Newcastle are favourites, but they like the other clubs need to agree terms with Inter,” Bulut told skysports.com.

“We have had good talks with a number of clubs and are hopeful something will be decided within the next few days.”
