Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has admitted that he is interested in signing Chelsea defender Robert Huth.

“Since I’ve been here the chairman has made another phone call to Chelsea enquiring about Huth’s availability,” Souness told BBC Radio Five Live.

But Souness denied reports that he was prepared to offer Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer as part of any deal.

“But Kieron Dyer was not mentioned in that conversation.”

“The Dyer connection has come from somewhere in London,” Souness added.

“And it certainly wasn’t originated from anyone at this football club.”

Huth has made three appearances for Germany this season but has made one appearance for the club this term.
