Newcastle will not take any action against striker Craig Bellamy despite the striker being involved in an angry confrontation with coach John Carver.

The pair argued at Newcastle airport ahead of the UEFA Cup trip to Mallorca but a spokesman for the club played down the incident.

“It was nothing more than a push-and-shove incident, the type you see in the playground all the time,” a Newcastle spokeswoman told BBC Sport.

“Newcastle United will not be taking the matter any further and are fully focused on the Uefa Cup game.”

“They spoke a while after the incident and are the best of friends again.”

It is not the first time that Bellamy and Carver have clashed – they came to blows at Newcastle’s training ground last season.
