Nigeria captain Jay-Jay Okocha says he will retire from international football next year.

Okocha, who has represented Nigeria 64 times, hopes to conclude his international career at next year’s World Cup finals in Germany.

“If we make it then it will be my last World Cup and if we don’t, then that is how I will end my international career,” Okocha was quoted as saying by local newspapers on Friday.

Nigeria must beat Zimbabwe in Saturday’s Group Four qualifier and hope that leaders Angola fail to beat Rwanda in Kigali if they are to qualify.

Although Nigeria and Angola have 18 points, Angola have a superior head-to-head record.

Okocha had been ruled out of the match against Zimbabwe because of a groin injury, but is optimistic of reaching next year’s finals.

“I’m optimistic about our qualification on Saturday as it’ll be the fourth World Cup for me and my country,” he said.
