Walter Pandiani has revealed his frustration at joining Birmingham City, claiming it was the last place he wanted to end up.

The Uruguayan striker completed a last-minute loan move to St Andrews on transfer deadline day.

However, he has revealed that it was not Birmingham but Fiorentina he wanted to join.

“I’m leaving Depor feeling very hurt,” he told Cadena Cope.

“I hope I will not return. I wanted to go to Fiorentina but Deportivo – maybe on purpose – took time sending the fax, and I am in Birmingham – just where I didn’t want to be.”

Pandiani left Deportivo after falling out with boss Javier Irureta.

“After my declarations (criticising Irureta) I was looking for a change of scene because I could see Irureta was trying not to play me.”
