Manuel Pellegrini insists there has been no contact from Florentino Perez about taking over as Real Madrid coach.

Perez has been confirmed as Real’s new president and according to reports he has earmarked Villarreal’s Pellegrini to replace Juande Ramos.

Pellegrini has a clause in his contract which would allow him to leave Villarreal, providing Real pay compensation of €4million.

However, after a 3-2 win over Mallorca saw Villarreal finish the season in fifth position, Pellegrini confirmed there have been no talks with Real.

“I again reiterate what I said,” Pellegrini told reporters. “What mattered was the game against Mallorca.

“You want me to answer something that I can not answer.”

Villarreal president Fernando Roig confirmed Real must meet the figure in Pellegrini’s contract in order to secure the Chilean’s appointment.

Roig said: “The terms are to be obeyed and, to terminate the contract it is very simple, they must pay this amount.

“The only thing I can say is that now, Manuel Pellegrini is the coach of Villarreal and nothing more.”
