River Plate coach Manuel Pellegrini has vowed to fight on in the face of fierce criticism following his team’s fourth defeat in six matches.

River were beaten 2-1 by Lanus last weekend, ending their hopes of retaining the Argentinian League title. Chilean Pellegrini, who won the title with San Lorenzo before moving to River, said:

‘I’ve been in Argentina for a year and 10 months and it’s been all successes.

‘The last two weeks I’ve had here at River don’t dampen all the good achieved before.

‘Fans are seldom wrong. They might be more or less right (this time) but this team were champions a few months ago and in the fight for this tournament until the 13th round.’
