France coach Jacques Santini has recalled Chelsea midfield player Emmanuel Petit to his squad for next week’s friendly against Yugoslavia in Paris.

Petit, 32, returns to the squad after showing somefine performances for Chelsea recently However, there is no place for fellow World Cup winner Bixente Lizarazu, who has recently returned from injury.

“Petit has recovered from injury and proved he deserved to come back,” French coach Jacques Santini said.

“I just look at heart and motivation not how old players are.”

Santini added: “Lizarazu has not been discarded. He is part of an enlarged group. He has as much chance as anyone else.”

Other absentees from the squad are Nicolas Anelka and Philippe Mexes, Djibril Cisse and Robert Pires, the latter pair having just returned from injury.
