Robert Pires has advised Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka to join him at Villarreal.

Anelka’s future at Bolton has been the subject of press speculation over the summer, but manager Sammy Lee insisted over the weekend there had still been no offers for the Frenchman.

Pires believes Anelka would be the perfect replacement for Diego Forlan, who left the club to join Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer.

“For me Nico is the best attacking French player in Europe,” Pires said in The Sun.

“It would be a sensational buy for us.”
