Argentinean left-back Diego Placente has confirmed he has received an offer from an English team.

The Celta Vigo defender has been linked with a move to Wigan as new manager Steve Bruce looks to bolster his defensive options.

The defender turned down an offer from Everton in 2005 after his contract expired at Bayer Leverkusen, choosing to join Celta Vigo instead.

But Placente told TyC Sports: “For the moment I am only thinking of the chance of staying in Europe and playing there. I still don’t want to return to Argentina.

“Maybe in one or two years I will change my mind about staying definitely in my country.

“I am very thankful to River Plate and San Lorenzo who have thought about me and phoned me but I am analyzing an offer from an English team.

“For the moment I can’t say too much but if I have the chance of moving to England it will be a very positive thing for my career.

“When I decide to return to Argentina it would only be to play either for River or Argentinos Juniors so I am thankful also to Boca who have given me a phone call but I could never play in that team as I respect River Plate a lot.”
