Oviedo will face Real Madrid in the top tie of the next round of the revamped Spanish Cup after the draw today in the Spanish capital.

Ferrol v Deportivo de La Coruna and Alicante v Valencia are the other most intriguing ties while Novelda, the third division side who beat Barcelona, have a chance of further progress afer being matched with second division Tarrassa.

The games will be played on November 6.

“It’s a brilliant draw for us,” said Oviedo skipper, Oli. “If we were using the old two-leg system it would be almost imnpossible for us but now that the cup is just one-off matches anything can happen – even if Madrid bring all their superstars.”

The draw was fixed on a geographical basis and with all Primera Liga clubs kept apart.
Draw in full:
Irun v Bilbao, Alicante v Valencia
Palamos v Betis
Numancia v Celta
