Police drop Rooney charge

The student who accused Wayne Rooney of assaulting him in a nightclub fight last week has withdrawn the allegation against the England striker.
Patrick Hanrahan alleged that Rooney was involved in a bust-up with him after the student taunted him in Manchester's Tiger Tiger nightclub.
However, Hanrahan has now dropped the claims and the police have confirmed that they will not be pursuing the matter.
"We were informed that the complainant did not want to pursue the allegation," said a Greater Manchester police spokeswoman.
"We took a retraction statement from him and officers will not be pursuing the matter any further."
