Portsmouth have agreed a fee for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, according to reports.
Defoe, 25, has failed to hold down a regular first-team place at White Hart Lane and has been told he can leave the club by manager Juande Ramos. However, earlier this month, Defoe claimed he intended to stay.
With Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov preferred in attack, Defoe has spent much of the season on the bench.
His contract expires at the end of next season and Spurs are keen to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
Pompey’s move for Defoe comes amid speculation that top scorer Benjani Mwaruwari is undergoing a medical at Premier League rivals Manchester City.
