Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his delight at securing a memorable double with Manchester United and confirmed that he wants to stay with the club.

The Portuguese winger scored his 42nd goal of the season to give United the lead, but he also suffered the indignity of seeing his penalty shootout effort saved by Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.

“Of course there was anguish but I had confidence Edwin (van der Sar) would make a save,” he said. United’s Dutch goalkeeper subsequently saved Nicolas Anelka’s penalty after Chelsea captain John Terry had also missed for the London outfit.

“Well this is football, I score a goal in the game but I miss the penalty, but this happens,” he said.

“I feel very proud for the lads, they believe all the time and they deserve to win the Champions League.

“This is everything for me, I have looked forward to winning this competition and this is my first Champions League.

“We won the Premier League as well, it is a magnificent season for me.”

The Portuguese winger also also quashed speculation that he might leave United.

“We will celebrate today but after the 24th I must start thinking about the European Championship,” he told reporters. “I am so proud and happy. I want to stay.”
