Barcelona look set to be without captain Carles Puyol for the Copa Del Rey final against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The defender strained a hamstring in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu – the first encounter of four between the teams over 18 days.

Puyol, who was playing his first match since 23 January because of a knee injury, was carried off after 58 minutes with a strained left hamstring.

“I’ll definitely be there,” he told the club website. “But playing or not, I don’t know.

“I felt very good on Saturday, with lots of enthusiasm and excitement. It’s been three hard months that were very tough for me.

“It was the perfect place to make my comeback. In the first half I felt really good until I started having some problems.”

Barca coach Pep Guardiola said Puyol had “worked extremely hard and has strained his hamstring a bit”.

He added: “But it’s not a serious injury and we will try to get him fit again for the future.”
