Valencia coach Claudio Ranieri believes his side’s crucial win over Anderlecht could signal a change in fortunes for the club.

Valencia can still progress to the knockout phases, but must beat Werder Bremen at the Mestalla in two weeks’ time.

“My team gave everything they could at this time,” Ranieri said.

“It is important because we have now ended the bad run.

“The game was very difficult but we knew it would be because Anderlecht prefer to play on the counter-attack.

“The work of (Ruben) Baraja and (Mohamed) Sissoko was very important to curb their game.

“We did not play marvellously, but you can only do that when you have all the confidence in the world.

“It will not be easy against Bremen because they are a very good team,” he continued.

“We must be on top of our game, and we still aren’t.”
