Raul has played down reports that he could leave Real Madrid for Liverpool this summer.

Reports over the weekend suggested that Raul could join the Spanish contingent at Anfield to join compatriot Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool side.

Raul endured a disappointing season with Real last term and he has made it clear he would quit Real if he was no longer required.

However, Raul has moved to quash the speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool.

“I’m not thinking about playing in England,” said Raul.

“My future is in the Spanish league. It would be very complicated for me to go there.”

Earlier, Raul, who has spent his entire acreer at Real, said: “If I listen to polls in papers it looks as though I should leave. I want what is best for Real.

“If at some time I have to sacrifice myself for Real to progress I will.”

“If the club calls you up and says you have to go, then as a player you have to be prepared to look for a way out that benefits everyone.

“I still feel useful to the club and believe I have not reached my peak, but I don’t want to be in the way. All I want is for the club to be clear with me.”
