The former Spain international has slipped down the pecking order this season and has often found himself on the substitutes bench.

He insists that he is happy to remain at Real ‘for now’, but admits ‘there will be time to talk’ about ‘what may happen’ in the near future.

“It’s not an ideal situation for any player,” he said.

“For 15 years I have won practically everything, and in the last three months I have played less.

“Sooner or later I had to come to his point.”
