Real Madrid are hopeful that Kaka will be fit to play in El Clasico against Barcelona amid reports that the Brazil playmaker is in danger of missing the World Cup.

The forward has been sidelined for the past month with a hernia problem and it is hoped that a period of rest will eradicate any need for surgery.

Real are eager for Kaka to be fit for Saturday’s meeting with Primera Liga title rivals Barcelona at the Bernabeu and are waiting for advice from medical experts.

However, reports persist that the 27-year-old requires an operation which could rule him out of the forthcoming World Cup.

But Real director general Jorge Valdano remains optimistic, saying: “If the doctors give the authorisation, then Kaka will play against Barcelona.”
