Real Madrid fell to their first defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 to an impressive Racing Santander.

Goals from Uruguayan striker Mario Regueiro and former Real Madrid forward Pedro Munitis secured the points for the newly-promoted Cantabrians.

The win was especially sweet for Munitis – on loan at Racing – who barely figured for Real during his spell in the capital. His energetic performance overshadowed a fitful contribution from Brazilian Ronaldo who was making his first start for Real.

In another upset Villarreal earned their first win of the season, coming from behind to beat Deportivo Coruna 3-1.

Depor went ahead on eight minutes when Victor Sanchez directed a Fran free kick into the net with a header. But Villarreal three minutes into the second half an own goal gtom Depor defender Cesar ensured parity. Victor Fernandez gave Villarreal the lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half and Brazilian international Juliano Belletti headed home a third in the claoing minutes.
