Aston Villa enter the Europa League with an away 1st leg at Rapid Vienna – see best odds on every market.

France striker Loic Remy is joining Marseille from Ligue 1 rivals Nice, the French champions have confirmed.

The player was due to have a medical on Thursday before signing a contract, Marseille said in a statement on their website (www.om.net).

The statement read: “OM and OGC Nice hace reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of striker Loic Remy.”

“The 23-year-old player will arrive in Marseille this afternoon and will then undergo the customary medical examination prior to the signing of his contract. He will then be presented to the press.”

Marseille, who have lost their first two matches of the new season, desperately needed a striker following the departure of Senegal forward Mamadou Niang, last season’s top Ligue 1 scorer with 18 goals, to Fenerbahce.

Remy, 23, has won two caps for France. He started his career at Lyon and left them for Racing Lens in 2007 before moving to Nice the following year. He scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 for Nice last season.
