New Atletico Madrid manager Abel Resino has revealed that the chance to take over at the Vicente Calderon was simply too good to turn down.
Resino was brought in to replace Javier Aguirre after leading Castellon to the top half of the Segunda Division.
The 49-year-old admits is looking forward to the new challenge of managing Atletico.
“In life one has to take risks and grab opportunities,” Resino told Marca.
“The first thing that Atletico did was to speak to Castellon. I have not abandoned them.
“Castellon appreciated the work that I did and they did not want to stop me from taking this opportunity. I will be eternally grateful to them for this gesture.
“The Castellon players all congratulated me and were pleased. I was delighted about that.”
After spending nearly a decade at Atletico, the former keeper is well placed to understand the ‘Colchoneros’ dressing room.
“In the dressing rooms of the big teams you have to take a different approach. Players are players, but things are slightly different,” he added.
“I am taking Miguel Peiro with me, the physical trainer, and in Madrid we will decide who else will join us.”
